Dreaming of the long, thick, beachy waves that you see all over your social media feed? Have you tried to grow your hair out and it just doesn’t happen, stopping somewhere just beneath your shoulders or even shorter?
I hear this all the time from many of my clients and when extensions are not their preferred option they feel as if they have no hope to have the length they desire! Everyone who wants to feel the flow of long hair deserves to and I have a couple natural tips that may help to boost your growth! This is not to say that short isn’t sexy or a buzz isn’t beautiful but for those looking to lengthen their strands, give these ideas a try!
Split End Dusting is my #1 Favorite!
It seems counterintuitive to think that cutting your hair could promote healthy length. In fact it’s the complete opposite! As our hair grows it becomes damaged from many different factors, the sun, heat, chemicals, over-washing. Kind of like exfoliating your skin sloughs off the dead cells and invigorates the healthy cells, a little dusting of your split ends cleans up your look and keeps your hair healthy and strong. I recommend a quick trim every 6-8 weeks to help keep that length long and strong!
Make Time for Massage
You know how good it feels when your stylists washes your hair… uhh so relaxing! We all love this part of a salon visit as it releases tension, is the ultimate form of pampering, and the shampoo usually smells wonderful (think aromatherapy!). Find a shampoo and conditioner that you love and when you’re washing and conditioning your hair take a little extra time to massage that scalp! Increasing blood flow to your scalp/good circulation is imperative to hair growth. Even when dry, after a long day massage the back of your neck, up to the crow of your head and your temples to reduce stress and stimulate that hair growth! Better yet, have your partner, roommate, friend, family member, etc. do it for you--what a luxury.
Masks are a Must
You may have heard that rich conditioners can weigh your hair down making it feel heavy, flat or greasy. Though this may be true on the day of and/or after you do your mask (perfect days for updos and intense, sweaty work outs!) this is a long-term investment in the health of your hair. A mask once a week, even a quick 5-minute one can make a big difference to the length and strength of your hair. My favorite of the moment is The Renaissance Circle by Davines. Try not to fall in love with the smell… I dare you.
